Most of the apps we develop solve a problem – YOUR problem. It reduces a barrier, saves time or staves off hiring that next employee.
Apps can range to human interaction apps down to small bots that do small or very large tasks behind the scenes. Live and passive.
RARELY does an app replace people and it shouldn’t. Trust me – it is an art to get employees onboard with automating a process but 9 out of 10 times, its work people wish they did not need to do.
- double data entry – eg. bookkeeping timesheets or creating invoices
- keeping track of the same information for projects with largely the same root data
- mundane data entry – eg. field data collected and written by hand, inventory in the shop
- month end reporting – eg. receiving dozens of reports, entering and checking and reporting a consolidated view
- large complete data collection to final delivery online to the customer
- estimating projects
- creating bills of material lists – eg. usually from a formulaic list like solar installations
- etc
Getting data from one source be it man or machine and moving it through the same steps can be automated and its almost always worth it. Often when Excel is getting cumbersome and mistakes are made or people with nerdy skills leave, Excel might be a collection and reporting step but everything in between could and should be automated.
There are solutions for every budget that will directly impact your bottom line in decreased costs OR almost likely more work being able to be done with the people you already have that you have invested heavily in over the years.
Types of apps
Web apps – internal or external web apps – many people can attack a problem all at once. You can pass a spreadsheet around but when its a 30+ people needing to attack a problem quickly or enter data concurrently- a web app always wins the day. This allows your clients access to you in a very streamlined fashion like document submittal or online forms.
Desktop apps – these apps usually require special horsepower and doing it on a local machine is key. They are getting fewer and fewer as the web gets faster.
Tablet or iPhone apps. FileMaker can make apps really easy and quick to add to a pocket or field device. Other applications can be web apps that utilize a tablet’s browser or … you can do a traditional native iPhone/Google device app. These days there is lots of technology to do an app for multi-platform keeping your costs down.
In the background robots. Data collection overnight or throughout the day happens all day long with our clients. Apps that you can’t see or will never see work tirelessly all day long. They clean, harvest or transfer data at just the right time. Need it done faster due to large amounts of data? Scale it properly. We can help. HOURS OF MANUAL LABOUR isn’t necessary. Get a computer to do it as it doesn’t get tired and often doesn’t make a mistake. Is it broken? Have a heartbeat app monitoring when its not working.
